TIME/PIECE
videostroboscope
brass construction, electronics, 0.70 x 0.70 x 1.40cm, 6 min video loop, 1994-1995
'Time is the mobile image of immobile eternity' Augustinus
The idea for Time/Piece evolved from my curiosity in understanding what might happen to a video image if I would accelerate a video-screen to a high speed in a spinning mode. In that sense, it is perhaps more of a visual experiment than an artwork, or more accurately, Time/Piece is a machine - a machine that centrifuges the flat video-image into the dimension of space. As the image is originally captured under the same conditions with a revolving camera, the result is an inverted panorama.
