20 drawings in colour ink and gold leaf on vellum, various sizes ± 8x10cm, 1995
This is a series of 20 drawings in colour ink and goldleaf on vellum. As they invariably carry inscriptions
in Arabic, the drawings questions different modes of perception between a Western non-Arabic speaker
and his or her Arabic counterpart. It thus reveals the politicised nature of language and scripture. Many
people in he West thought the texts were Koranic verses but they were simply titles of the drawings.
